Jakub Seidler – CNB Board Member
Jakub Seidler was born on 3 September 1983 in Bílovec, where he attended the mathematics programme of Mikuláš Koperník Grammar School. In 2008, he graduated in economics from the Institute of Economic Studies at Charles University in Prague, where he also completed his PhD. During his studies, he spent a semester at the Humboldt University in Berlin. He started his career in 2008 at the Czech National Bank, where he held various positions in the Financial Stability Department, the Economic Research Department and the Monetary Department over a period of six years. As head of the Macroprudential Policy Unit, he was later responsible mainly for conducting stress tests of the banking sector and financial stability analyses. While working at the central bank, he undertook a number of courses on econometrics, financial stability and monetary policy at international institutions such as the IMF, the ECB and the Bank of England.
From 2014 to 2021, he served as Chief Economist for the Czech Republic at ING Bank, where he specialised in macroeconomic analyses and forecasts for the Czech economy, financial market developments and monetary and fiscal policy outlooks. In 2018, the Czech government appointed him a member of the Committee on Budgetary Forecasts, which evaluates the credibility of the Ministry of Finance’s macroeconomic forecasts. From mid-2021 to December 2024, he was Chief Economist at the Czech Banking Association, where he oversaw the preparation of economic and financial analyses and regular macroeconomic forecasts.
As an expert frequently quoted in the domestic media, he has commented regularly on the domestic economy, monetary policy, the credit market and interest rates over the last ten years.
He was appointed a member of the Bank Board of the Czech National Bank for a six-year term starting on 1 December 2024.
