In accordance with CNB Decree No. 173/2008 Coll., 20-koruna banknotes ceased to be valid on 31 August 2014. These banknotes can no longer be exchanged. The CZK 20 coin designed by Vladimír Oppl remained in circulation.
The invalid banknotes could be exchanged at the CNB’s offices in Prague, Plzeň, Hradec Králové, Brno, Ostrava, České Budějovice and Ústí nad Labem until 31 August 2014.
The termination of validity was approved by the Bank Board of the Czech National Bank on 31 January 2008. The number of CZK 20 banknotes returning from circulation had been very low since 2004 and the banknotes no longer fulfilled the function of currency in circulation. The exchange of CZK 20 banknotes is governed by CNB Decree No. 173/2008 Coll. (pdf, 107 kB) (only Czech version).
