On 4 March 2015 the Czech National Bank is putting into circulation a CZK 200 commemorative silver coin to mark the 750th anniversary of the foundation of České Budějovice by King Přemysl Otakar II. The coin is minted from an alloy containing 925 parts silver and 75 parts copper and is issued in two versions, normal quality and proof quality, which differ in surface treatment and edge marking. Proof-quality coins have a highly polished field, a matt relief and a plain edge with the inscription in Czech “ČESKÁ NÁRODNÍ BANKA * Ag 0.925 * 13 g *”. Normal quality coins have milled edges. The coin is 31 mm in diameter, weighs 13g and is 2.3 mm thick. As with any other coins, deviations in diameter of 0.1 mm and thickness of 0.15 mm are allowed. Upward deviations in weight of 0.26 g and silver content of 1% are permitted.
The obverse side depicts the seal of King Přemysl Otakar II, across which the Czech lion on a shield is featured on the left and the Saint Wenceslas flaming eagle on a shield is featured on the right. The name of the state “ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA” is located around the left-hand, upper and right-hand edge of the coin. The denomination and abbreviated monetary unit “200 Kč” are written around the lower edge of the coin. The coin was minted by the Czech Mint. Its mark in the form of the letters “Č” and “M” is located near the right-hand edge of the coin above the Saint Wenceslas flaming eagle. The reverse side of the coin depicts the town plan of České Budějovice at the time of its foundation. The emblem of České Budějovice is located near the upper edge of the coin and partly extends into the depiction of the town plan. The coat of arms of Burgrave Hirzo of Zvíkov (Klingenberg), who designed České Budějovice at the request of the king, is located near the left-hand side of the town plan. The coat of arms partly extends into the town plan. The left-hand and right-hand edges of the coin contain the years “1265” and “2015” and the text “ZALOŽENÍ ČESKÝCH BUDĚJOVIC”. The coin was designed by the sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů. His initials, in the form of the interlinked letters “FZ”, are situated near the lower left-hand edge of the coin.
Each coin comes with a beige catalogue card containing a description and the relief of the coin.
The Czech National Bank sells its commemorative coins through contractual partners licensed to trade in numismatic material.
