Commemorative silver coin to mark the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Czechoslovak National Council

On 10 February 2016 the Czech National Bank is putting into circulation a CZK 500 commemorative silver coin to mark the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Czechoslovak National Council. The coin is minted from an alloy containing 925 parts silver and 75 parts copper and is issued in two versions, normal quality and proof quality, which differ in surface treatment and edge marking. Proof-quality coins have a highly polished field, a matt relief and a plain edge with the inscription “ČESKÁ NÁRODNÍ BANKA * Ag 0.925 * 25 g *”. Normal quality coins have milled edges. The coin is 40 mm in diameter, weighs 25 g and is 2.75 mm thick. As with any other coins, deviations in diameter of 0.1 mm and thickness of 0.15 mm are allowed. Upward deviations in weight of 0.50 g and silver content of 1% are permitted.

The obverse side of the coin features a blossoming linden branch which is overlapped by a Czech flag with the Czech lion, accompanied with a text “SVOBODNÝ JE TEN NÁROD, KTERÝ NENÍ PODŘÍZENÝ MOCI JINÉHO NÁRODA” on the upper and lower margin of the flag. Written around the outer circle is the name of the state “ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA” and the denomination and abbreviated monetary unit “500 Kč”. The name of the state and the denomination of the coin are separated with a dot at the start and with the mark of the Czech Mint, in the form of the letters “Č” and “M”, at the end. The reverse side of the coin features Czech and Slovak flags overlapped by Austrian-Hungarian eagle. A flag of the Czechoslovak National Council, stylised in the form of a sword, is located in the foreground. Written around the outer circle is the text “ČESKOSLOVENSKÁ NÁRODNÍ RADA”, with the years “1916” and “2016” under the depiction of the sword. The text and the years are separated with a dot at the start and the initials of the designer Josef Šafařík, in the form of letters “JS”, at the end.

Each coin comes with a cream-coloured catalogue card containing a description and the relief of the coin.
