On 9 June 2021 the Czech National Bank is issuing a CZK 500 commemorative silver coin with a hologram featuring the Škoda 498 Albatros steam locomotive. The coin is minted from an alloy containing 925 parts silver and 75 parts copper and is issued in two versions, normal quality and proof quality, which differ in surface treatment and edge marking. Normal quality coins have milled edges. Proof-quality coins have a highly polished field, a matt relief and a plain edge with the inscription “ČNB * PARNÍ LOKOMOTIVA * ALBATROS *”. The coin is 40 mm in diameter, weighs 25 g and is 2.6 mm thick.
The obverse side of the coin features part of the locomotive’s wheel. The text “ČESKÁ” is located in the right-hand upper part of the coin. The text “REPUBLIKA” is written around the wheel in the left-hand upper part of the coin. The denomination and abbreviated monetary unit “500 Kč” are written in the lower part of the coin. The mark of the Czech Mint, in the form of the letters “Č” and “M”, is located below the abbreviated monetary unit. The reverse side of the coin features the Škoda 498 Albatros steam locomotive on a section of its producer’s logo. The locomotive is depicted with a relief-like image using an embossed hologram. The text “ŠKODA” is located near the left-hand edge of the coin. The text “498” and the mark of the designer of the coin Asamat Baltaev are situated near the lower edge. The year “2021” is located above the designer’s mark.
Each coin comes with a black catalogue card containing a description and the relief of the coin.
