New communications director and CNB spokesman

On 1 September 2015, Marek Zeman (44) will become the new Director of the Communications Division of the General Secretariat and spokesman of the Czech National Bank. The Bank Board decided to appoint him to this currently vacant managerial position at its meeting on 23 July 2015. As CNB spokesman, Mr Zeman will be responsible above all for the central bank’s relations with the media.

Marek Zeman graduated from the Faculty of Education at Masaryk University in Brno. From 2003, he worked at the Ministry of Finance as head of the Press Department and spokesman. In 2006–2012, he was Director of PR and Communications for the Czech Republic and Slovakia at AXA Česká republika. In 2012, he contributed to Vladimír Dlouhý’s presidential campaign as spokesman. Between 2012 and 2014, he was Director of the Public Affairs and Communication Department at the Ministry of Education and later at the Ministry of Finance. Since 2014 he has been doing business in the field of PR and communications.

The position of Director of the Communications Division and CNB spokesman, which Marek Zeman will take up from 1 September 2015, is currently vacant. Tomáš Zimmermann has been in charge of the Communications Division and has acted as CNB spokesman since 1 July 2014.

Within the CNB, the Communications Division is part of the General Secretariat, and as Director Mr Zeman will report to the Executive Director of the General Secretariat Marek Petruš. Mr Petruš coordinates the central bank’s overall external and internal communications, the secretariat and protocol of the Bank Board, legislative and legal services and relations with the European Union and international organisations.
