Vojtěch Benda and Tomáš Nidetzký appointed members of the CNB Bank Board
Vojtěch Benda (40) and Tomáš Nidetzký (46) will become new members of the CNB Bank Board with effect from 1 July 2016. They were appointed on 17 May 2016 by President of the Czech Republic Miloš Zeman for a six-year term. The Bank Board is the supreme governing body of the CNB.
The terms of office of the current Governor Miroslav Singer and Bank Board member Kamil Janáček will expire on 30 June 2016. Miroslav Singer has been on the Bank Board since February 2005. He was initially a Vice-Governor and was appointed Governor with effect from 1 July 2010. Kamil Janáček also became a member of the Bank Board on 1 July 2010.
The CNB sees to price and financial stability and the sound operation of the financial system in the Czech Republic, issues banknotes and coins, manages the circulation of currency and interbank settlements, and supervises entities operating on the financial market.
The Bank Board consists of seven members. The current line-up also includes Vice-Governors Mojmír Hampl and Vladimír Tomšík, and members Lubomír Lízal, Jiří Rusnok and Pavel Řežábek. Bank Board members are appointed for a term of six years and are not allowed to hold the position of member of the Bank Board more than twice.

Vojtěch Benda was born on 7 July 1975. In 1999 he graduated from the Faculty of International Relations at the University of Economics in Prague. He has also completed a specialised course on macroeconomic analysis and policy at the IMF Institute in Vienna and a number of other courses and training programmes in economic policy and forecasting methods organised under the auspices of Banca d’Italia, Banque de France and others.
In 1998 he joined the Czech National Bank, first as an economic analyst and later as a principal economic analyst in the Monetary Department. In 2006–2012 he was senior economist in the international economic research team of the ING financial group, where he specialised in macroeconomic analysis and financial market strategy. In 2013–2014 he was in charge of stock market analysis and strategy as chief economist at BH Securities. Since April 2014 he has been an adviser to Bank Board member Jiří Rusnok.
Tomáš Nidetzký was born on 29 March 1970. He graduated from the Faculty of Informatics and Statistics at the University of Economics in Prague and completed his postgraduate studies at Oklahoma City University in the USA. He started his career at the Czech Securities Centre. From 1995 he worked as assistant to the Chief Financial Officer of Komerční banka. In 1997 he joined Česká spořitelna, where he worked as director of strategic planning and financial group management until 1999. In 1999 he was appointed Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Penzijní fond České spořitelny and from 2000 he was Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Pojišťovna České spořitelny.
From 2003 he was a member of the Executive Board and Executive Director in charge of retail financial services at ING in the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic. In 2004–2010 he worked as Deputy Chairman of the Board and First Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Stavební spořitelna České spořitelny. In 2011–2013 he was director of internal distribution at ČSOB Pojišťovna. Since 2013 he has worked as Chief Sales Officer at NN Czech Republic. In 1999–2004 he was a member of the presidium of the Association of Pension Funds of the Czech Republic and of the Czech Insurance Association.
